Solo Instrumental Guitar - progressive rock, folk & new age.
If you are familiar with the prog rock and atmospheric and slightly weird sounds of Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Yes; the one man band sound (man of 1000 over dubs) of Mike Oldfield; or the beautifaul acoustic guitar playing of Will Ackerman and Michael Hedges - you will have an idea of where I am coming from!
My music is perfect for soundtracks. I have supplied original music for live theatre, film, & community TV. In 2006 I supplied original soundtrack music for the documentary film "1956 Flood" to mark the 50th anniversary of the River Murray Floods.
I cover a range of styles which reflect my own musical interests here is a bit more detail of Music Styles...
* Acoustic new age / folk / classical / country - sounds like Michael Hedges, Will Ackerman, Steve Howe, Jimmy Page
* Progressive rock - sounds like Pink Floyd, King Crimson, David Gilmour, Adrian Belew, Robert Fripp
* Blues / rock - sounds like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green, Jimmy Page / Led Zeppelin
* Ambient rock guitar soundscapes - sounds like Mike Oldfield, Robert Fripp, Pink Floyd, Brian Eno
**Cool stuff that's happened**
In 2004 I won the SCALA FOOM award for 'best demo instrumental' - Dickhead in a G-string. A 9 minute guitar epic - featured on the 2005 SCALA Compilation CD Over the Edge
In 2006 I won SCALA FOOM award for 'best demo instrumental' - Blue Moon Territory. A piece which demonstrates my solo acoustic playing. - featured on the 2007 SCALA Compilation CD Shadows and Light.

Both tracks , however appear on my latest album Terrafirma
I featured in the inaugural Adelaide International Guitar Festival 23 Nov – 2 Dec 2007 in two major events – On the Verge in Elder Park (supporting Ed Kuepper, Kaki King & Vernon Reid) ; and SA Gunslingers (showcase of all SA artists, incl Chris Finnen)
Here is a description of my Live solo performance styles..
Many years ago I played in a couple of bands round Adelaide (my home town!) This was fun but had many difficulties and limitations. Now I focus on solo work and occasional collaborations.
My live performance & repertoire varies according to the environment I play in -
* Solo acoustic
With my acoustic guitar alone I can play at least an hour of solo guitar instrumental material. If my vocal chords are up to it, I can fill the set out with 3 or 4 songs.
* Solo acoustic (looping)
As above, but with the addition on my looping equipment I can fill the set out with some multi-layered pieces, improvisations, and interesting rhythmic accompaniments. I can play for 1 ½ to 2 hours.
* Electronic Guitar
With all my equipment and relying heavily on loops and long delay soundscapes and a drum machine I can create complex and exciting musical performances with an emphasis on lead guitar soloing and improvisation. My material sounds very much like Pink Floyd, King Crimson and Mike Oldfield. I fill the set out with some acoustic pieces and vocal numbers. I can easily play a 2 ½ - 3 hour show!
